Baking a difference

In the bakery industry, the most important factor (besides delicious ingredients) is hygiene. Why is this? Well, the obvious answer is no one wants a mouldy batch of bread. But more than that, entire production lines of factories can come to an astounding halt, with disastrous implications for the business. When it comes to food, safety is a top priority.

As you can imagine, the food and safety requirements for a bakery are extremely high. The factories need to be equipped with the best possible equipment for the job. Over the last few years, more and more baking brands are coming to Bolidt for their synthetic solutions. Because of its flexible nature, the synthetic floor eliminates a lot of the factors that cause problems in bakeries.

For instance, bacteria will make a home out of any nook and cranny it can get into. This includes the gaps in the skirting, crevices in the corners of the walls, and the drainage system. With a synthetic flooring the material is set on site. Therefore, the floor can be fitted perfectly around any feature, like a drain, without any gaps at all. When it comes to corners, synthetics can be applied to the wall with curvature, rather than a 90 degree angle. The same goes for skirting; it need not exist.

Hubertus & Berkhoff

Hubertus & Berkhoff is a culinary vocational school that chose to install Bolidtop® 700 College flooring system. 

This is an interesting project as it includes a whole range of different needs. Students would be learning how to bake, cook, and serve. Hence, the floor needed to be easy to clean and needed to meet strict hygiene requirements. Not only this, but it’s a school, so thousands upon thousands of feet will tread upon it every year. This calls for a durable floor that will last a lifetime. The floor also had to fit into the aesthetic vision of the school. Bolidtop® 700 College happened to be the floor that met all of these requirements.

You may recognise these guys from such wonders as Mentos, Chupa-chups or Smint. Their products are sold all over the globe, and for the renovation of their factory they chose none other than Bolidt. Bolidtop® 700 offers not only hygiene, but also resistance to high mechanical output. With mass demand comes mass production, and with mass production comes massive machines. The floor had to be strong enough to withstand such machinery whilst offering the hygienic standards necessary. With such a large scale company, some flexibility was also needed. The company cannot afford to stop production lines, so the flooring was placed in stages.


Allemeersch is a family run bakery that prides itself on the freshness of its baked goods and its value of local ingredients. When it came to the floor of their new bakery, they chose the Bolidtop® 700 system. It meets all of the hygiene requirements, including the food and safety standards of the HACCP. In an environment like this, grains, flour and other loose ingredients are handled and often spilt. Bolidtop® 700 has an anti-slip characteristic, so even if it’s wet after a clean, it’s perfectly safe to walk over.
