Leviathan – Where innovation and purpose take shape on deck

With Leviathan, Oceanco has launched a yacht that redefines how design, innovation and purpose can coexist at sea. Measuring 111 metres, this extraordinary vessel was built not around convention but around intent - and nowhere is that vision more tangible than on its deck.

From the earliest design stages, Bolidt was invited to join the project as a co-creator, contributing to a new way of thinking about materials and their role on board.
“When we learned that no traditional materials would be used, we immediately knew this would be something special,” says Robert van Aarle, Director Maritime & Defence at Bolidt. “Together with the design and owner’s teams, we explored how far we could go in creating a deck that matched Leviathan’s architecture, a design that is entirely unique both in pattern and performance.”

For Bolidt’s R&D department, Leviathan represented a rare opportunity to translate a bold design vision into material reality. The team developed a bespoke compound and colour tone specifically for this yacht, engineered to deliver the comfort, durability and ease of maintenance that align with the owner’s philosophy. A specially formulated cool pigment was integrated into the material to ensure the deck remains pleasant to the touch, even in high temperatures, without compromising its refined appearance.
“When the brief came in, with a requirement for ‘everything but traditional’, that immediately sparked our enthusiasm,” recalls Hendrik Jan, R&D Director. 

“From day one, we were involved in shaping a decking system that met the yacht’s technical requirements while supporting its forward-thinking vision. The result is a deck that performs beautifully and requires minimal maintenance, exactly in line with the intent behind Leviathan.”

Leviathan’s deck was inspired by the yacht’s own profile lines, translating its fluid geometry into a seamless underfoot experience. Achieving that meant pushing the limits of craftsmanship and precision.
“We’re talking about an inspection tolerance of just 1.5 millimetres over three metres,” explains Jeffrey Kuiters, Operations Lead. “That level of flatness and consistency has never before been realised on a yacht of this scale. It took a dedicated team of twelve specialists, growing to sixteen at the peak of the project, all focused on perfection.”

Developed, produced and applied entirely in the Netherlands, the deck is a testament Dutch craftsmanship and Bolidt’s all under one roof approach, ensuring seamless control from chemistry to application.

“What we created here is craftsmanship turned into art,” Jeffrey adds. “It’s one of the finest decks we have ever made, the Formula 1 of yacht construction.”

Throughout the process, collaboration remained key. Multiple design and testing sessions were held at the Bolidt Innovation Center, where Oceanco’s engineers, the owner’s team and Bolidt’s specialists refined the material concept together.
“Leviathan is a perfect example of co-creation,” says Robert. “By working side by side from concept to completion, we were able to align the material, design and installation to the highest possible standard.”

Leviathan represents more than a technical achievement; it embodies a shared vision. A yacht that reimagines tradition, and a deck that brings that philosophy to life.
