Chinese home ports

The 326-metre-long Norwegian Joy will homeport in Shanghai and Tianjin and is Norwegian Cruise Line’s first ship that has been purpose built for the Chinese market by Meyer Werft in Germany. The 3,900 passengers that can be accommodated on the Norwegian Joy have a multitude of entertainment options. In addition to a park with lots of green and a swimming pool with sunbeds, shopping aficionados can indulge themselves in duty-free shops selling global luxury brands. And of course the ship features waterslides; the Double Aqua Loop and the Aqua Racer are even multiple storeys high! VIP accommodations on the Norwegian Joy include The Haven with a new Observation Deck and a Concierge level with spacious balcony staterooms and special guest privileges.

Go karting on board

Bolidt supplied and installed the decking on all the exterior decks of the Norwegian Joy. Particularly special is the about 230-metre-long kart track on board. The track, developed in partnership with Ferrari, was created using Bolideck® Racetrack. This is a synthetic material that is based on established road surfacing technology. Besides go karting, guests on the Norwegian Joy can enjoy a game of outdoor laser tag. Additionally, the ship’s Galaxy Pavilion offers virtual reality experiences, racing simulators, interactive video games and bumper cars. In keeping with the extravagant space theme, this state-of-the-art gaming lab features a black Bolideck® 525 system with a transparent top layer containing glitter. With the flooring also reflecting the funky texture of the ceiling, the overall visual effect is truly spectacular.

Important growth market

The Norwegian Joy is, however, not the only eye-catching cruise ship sailing Asian waters. The Ovation of the Seas also makes regular appearances across Asia. The decking systems on this impressive, 328-metre-long Royal Caribbean cruise ship were supplied and installed by Bolidt as well. As Bolidt sees Asia and particularly China as an important growth market, it wants to be able to provide its local customers with the best possible service. That is why, in 2017, a service office was opened in Shanghai. Your contact person here is Stephane Schrickx, maritime@bolidt.com.
