harmony of the seas

After having installed its innovative marine decking systems on the Oasis of the Seas and the Allure of the Seas, Bolidt was also contracted to supply the decking for the Harmony of the Seas. With its length of 362 metres, 16 guest decks and a gross tonnage of 226.000, the Harmony of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world and the third in Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class. The ship was built at STX France’s Saint-Nazaire shipyard in western France.

Trusted partner

Bolidt has enjoyed a close relationship with both STX France and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line for many years. Previously, the decks of the other two Oasis class ships were finished with Bolidt decking systems. Bolidt’s specialist and flexible application teams spent months at the shipyard working very hard to install the decking systems on both the indoor and outdoor decks of the Harmony of the Seas.

Virtual balconies

The Harmony of the Seas offers unique amenities like three spectacular waterslides above the green oasis of the ship’s Central Park. Other features include a climbing wall, surf simulators, an ice skating rink, 23 swimming pools, a waterpark, a 25-metre-long zip line and ‘The Ultimate Abyss’, the tallest slide at sea taking passengers ten storeys down from the Sports Zone to The Boardwalk. In the evenings, guests have 20 dining venues to choose from.

The Harmony of the Seas also features a number of new staterooms with balconies overlooking Central Park, staterooms with a view of the Boardwalk and a variety of Loft Suites. The interior staterooms have virtual balconies with a live-streamed view of the sea.

Various decking systems

The ecologically sound and lightweight Bolideck® Future Teak system was chosen for a large portion of the deck surfaces. Bolideck® Future Teak looks and feels like teak, but does not have the disadvantages of teak. For the helideck on the Harmony of the Seas, Bolidt recommended the specially developed Bolideck® Helideck. This deck finish is highly resistant to fluid seepage and able to withstand the extreme stress loads of helicopters taking off and landing. The Harmony of the Seas offers a wide range of sports facilities and exciting activities. The running track on deck 5 features one of the Bolideck® Select Soft surfaces installed on the ship.

Sound absorption

Besides offering endless colour and design possibilities, the main advantage of Bolideck® Select Soft is that it has excellent sound absorbing properties. On the other Oasis-class ships, for instance, experience has shown that Bolideck® Select Soft is the perfect deck finish for running tracks, but also for other sports and swimming pool areas, the AquaTheatre, the Youth Zone and even the balconies of the cabins. The Harmony of the Seas will spend the summer months cruising the Mediterranean and then set sail for the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
