Flooring that can withstand rough treatment is a must in any learning environment, and this certainly applies to Dieze College in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. With an emphasis on practical training, Dieze College provides vocational education for students with special needs aged 12 and over. Classes are taught in a beautiful new school building fully suited to the needs of contemporary education. The building was designed by Frank Geerts of the ‘s-Hertogenbosch architectural practice Th.J. Lammers.
Dieze College offers 12- to 20-year-olds with behavioural, psychological and/or psychiatric problems personalised secondary special education based on their individual needs in a safe and friendly school environment, enabling them to take a suitable place in society. The school caters for two special educational needs groups: an ASD group consisting of students diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a mainstream group consisting of students with diagnoses other than ASD. Think of AD(H)D, ODD or attachment disorder. Both groups are divided into junior and senior classes.
Frank Geerts: “In our design we chose the Bolidtop® 700 College flooring system. A choice that was made primarily on the basis of robustness. During practical lessons, heavy objects like tools regularly end up on the floor. Since the students work in smaller groups and the possibilities in terms of time and attention are more extensive, having practical flooring that can take some punishment is a real benefit.
We also carried out tests beforehand to see whether the flooring was resistant to welding sparks. This turned out to be the case. Other important properties we considered in our choice were the expected life, the maintenance-free character, the right feel and the high quality of the flooring. Additionally, the floor had to be aesthetically attractive. The colours we proposed turned out exactly as we wanted them.”
The collaboration between Bolidt and the architect went smoothly. Frank: “Whenever we have worked with Bolidt that has always been the case. In the design or pricing phase, we get detailed answers to any questions we have and sufficient samples to present colours to our clients. If desired, we are invited to a previously completed reference project, where Bolidt flooring has been installed. This allows the client to assess all aspects of a flooring system in a real life application. Including, not unimportantly, the shared user experience.”
Dieze College is very satisfied with the installed Bolidt flooring. Frank: “It is in excellent condition, despite being used heavily. The feedback we get is that the flooring is very maintenance friendly, just as we promised, so I am happy we chose this flooring system again. Quality is very important to us. Even when the available construction budget is limited sometimes, we still always make sure that the building materials specified and used are durable and of good quality. That is the only way we can guarantee that clients will still be housed in a ‘new’ building for years to come, which is ultimately what we want to achieve!”Request a brochure
