BOLIDT flooring and the food industry

The food industry covers a vast landscape of food products, from hatcheries to bakeries. Each of these segments of the industry have their own unique challenges and requirements. That being said, there are three solid reasons why synthetic flooring should be laying the foundation for any food production facility.

1. Food Safety

Perhaps the most delicate and urgent matter amongst food specialists is the hygiene of the environment. It can hold the industry up or bring it all crashing down. Food scares are never too far from the news, but to keep it out of there, synthetic flooring could be a good choice. Recently, a team of agricultural researchers discovered a gene in Salmonella that is resistant to antibiotics. The gene, namely fosA7, results in a high level of resistance to fosfomycin, an antibiotic used to treat multi-resistant bacteria. Found in broiler chickens, the discovery poses a serious threat to the food industry at large.

An issue with flooring in the food industry is all of the cracks and corners where bacteria can congregate. With a synthetic floor, connections between walls and floors can be made seamless. With Bolidt in particular, there are no pores and customized details such as guttering and drainage can be made to fit seamlessly with the floor.  This is due to Bolidt's thermosetting quality.

This way, a breakout of bacteria is lessened as much as possible.

2. Mechanical and chemical resistance

Generally speaking, floors in the food industry take a lot of pressure day in day out. With a crack in the floor, production lines can come to a halt. This is a worst case scenario that can easily be avoided with the choice of a durable floor. A good floor should be able to handle up to 20 years of heavy mechanical traffic or activity. Bolidtop® 700 is a great example of a resistant flooring system. It can carry up to 600 KG per cm2 and is resistant against all of the common industrial cleaning products, as well as liquids like blood.

3. Safety for the worker

Workers have experienced a decline in illness and injury over the past two decades within the food industry. In a profession that’s largely labour intensive, all elements must be considered as a means of reducing the risk of danger.

The floor is something the workers are constantly in contact with, so it plays a big role in worker safety. It should be highly slip-resistant. The Bolidt flooring systems provide a firm grip, even when spillages occur.

For these reasons, it’s hard to deny that a synthetic floor is the best possible option for any segment of the food industry. Find more information on Bolidt’s unique range of flooring systems and how they affect the food industry in our brochure.
