Co-creation: the beating heart of bolidt

Architecture happens to be one of the most exciting creative forms known to man. Not only does it have no limits, but it offers real tangible edification of environments. Once an imagining is made into reality, thousands of people will experience it inside-out for years to come.

Realising dreams into reality is something that gets us particularly excited here at Bolidt. In fact, we’d go as far to say that it’s the fuel that keeps us driving forward. Imagination can lead to endless possibilities in design, and through effective collaborations, these designs can be manifested. This article will explore some of the most epic designs that have come out of such collaborations.

The Winton Gallery

The Winton Gallery opened in December 2016, offering visitors a chance to explore mathematics in completely new way. The London Science Museum gallery exhibits mathematics from top to bottom, literally. Tools, ideas, and people are vividly explored, whilst the exhibition space itself exuberates intricate mathematical precision. In the center of the gallery is an aircraft hanging in mid-air. The room follows the curvature produced by the calculated airflow of this plane. The results are spectacular.

The project was headed by none other than Zaha Hadid Architects, who worked closely with Bolidt in designing a floor that would accompany such an intricate, ambitious project. The floor displays perfectly precise indications of airflow, with a smoothness that compliments the overall flow of the gallery. This could only be done with Bolidt’s team of specialists applying it on site.

Mein Schiff 6

Mein Schiff 6 is the latest cruise ship from TUI, which shows off some extraordinary features. Once again breaking the norm at sea, Mein Schiff 6 is home to over 5,700 pieces of art. Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs and graffiti create a theme that can be seen throughout the whole ship, in the cabins as well as public areas.

A central highlight of the ship is a collaboration between Bolidt and Polish, Hamburg-based artist 1010. On the fourth deck, a mesmerizing mural can be seen immersing visitors in artistic experience. The mural achieved a fluid appearance that was only possible with the epoxy on-site application of Bolidt. When synthetics are combined with creative minds, the results are stunning.

Texelstroom

Texelstroom is a ferry that provides transport between Den Helder and the island of Texel in the Netherlands. This was a particularly challenging and rewarding project that tested the versatility of Bolidt flooring. Naval architects C-Job and design studio Vripack came together to create this fascinating design. The aim was to bring the ‘island experience’ on board the ship. Through intensive research and many visits to the island, the team captured the essence of Texel.

Vripack wanted a floor that would resemble running water and sand throughout the whole ship, as well as a colour scheme that mirrored the effect of water on sand. The lower in the ship, the darker the sand, and the higher in the ship, the lighter it gets. This was made possible with the versatility in design that Bolidt can offer. To be specific, Bolideck® Fifty Fifty was used to realise the concept, with two contrasting, closely related colours. To recreate the wet and dry sands of the Frisian islands, shades of dark and light brown were mixed and set into the floor.

Bolidt Innovation Center

Here at Bolidt, we thrive off innovation, which is why we’re always looking for new ways to move forward. Our latest step forward, which we’re extremely excited about, is called the Bolidt Innovation Center. It features our brand new Experience & Innovation Center with co-creation at the core of its beating heart. It’s a space for great minds to come together in the exploration and experimentation of synthetics. To find out more about this exciting new development, check out the website. We look forward to sharing more amazing collaborations with you in the future!
