Bel Ga Myanmar

Since the gradual process of democratisation was initiated, Myanmar has experienced strong economic growth. As the rise in GDP and increasing minimum wages are boosting spending power, the consumption of poultry meat among the country’s 55 million, mainly Buddhist population is growing. For this reason, Dutch De Heus Group and Belgian Belgabroed decided to enter this growth market with their joint venture Bel Ga Myanmar Ltd. Bolidt was asked for advice on suitable flooring for this broiler hatchery and to supply and install the selected system.

380,000 chicks a week

With 80 years of experience in the production of high-quality day-old chicks in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Vietnam, Bel Ga Myanmar has started production in Myaung Dakar, Yangon. During construction, the hatchery was equipped with state-of-the-art hatchery technology from Belgian company Petersime. The hatchery has a 2,300 square metre production area and over 700 square metres of offices and other facilities. The 380,000 chicks a week capacity hatchery is run by 25 local staff under the supervision of European management.

Checking and adjusting to on-site conditions

Building a hatchery in Myanmar presents many challenges, , including obtaining a suitable piece of land and the required permits.

The archaic administrative and government infrastructure has yet to adjust to foreign investors. Since the country is located in a seismic zone, the structure must also be capable of withstanding possible earthquakes. With respect to the flooring, the climatic conditions posed a particular challenge for Bolidt. Humidity in the region is high, which called for specific advice on how to create the right conditions for the installation of flooring. Bolidt’s experts were in Myanmar multiple times beforehand to check the conditions and make adjustments where necessary. In order to ensure the optimum quality of its flooring anywhere in the world, Bolidt exclusively works with its own specialised application teams.

Know-how

Carl Destrooper of Bel Ga Myanmar: “The

hatchery maintains the highest standards of hygiene, taking the future GlobalGap certification into account. This also includes the flooring of course. We chose Bolidt, because they have a lot of know-how and experience both in the poultry industry and with international projects.” The logical and common choice of flooring system for the poultry industry is Bolidtop® 700. The pore-free surface of this system makes it impossible for bacteria to settle in the floor. Its seamless and dirt-repellent finish also prevents the growth of bacteria. In addition, the Bolidt floor can be properly cleaned and disinfected, since Bolidtop® 700 is resistant to high pressure cleaning and chemicals. Product benefits that are recognised by the poultry industry worldwide and were of decisive importance to Bel Ga Myanmar.
