De Boog plays it safe with AM technology

The methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacterium, MRSA in short, is every healthcare facility’s worst nightmare. In 2016 alone, 861 patients across the globe died after being infected with this bacterium, which is invisible to the naked eye. It is therefore not surprising that an increasing number of facilities are choosing Bolidt floor and wall finishes with Antimicrobial (AM) technology. So did De Boog in Nieuwegein, a community centre that also houses a physical therapy and general medical practice. De Boog was designed by Arnhem-based architecture firm Wiegerinck Architecten. This partner is not unknown to Bolidt; previous projects, in which both parties have been involved include the expansion of the Laurentius hospital Roermond, the construction of the new Maas Hospital Pantein in Boxmeer and the re-development of the Amphia hospital in Breda. Just like in these hospitals, the flooring of choice for De Boog was a Bolidtop® system.

Silent killers

Not wanting to take any chances with the health of visitors, it was natural for Wiegerinck Architecten to choose Bolidtop® 525 with an AM finish. After all, a general and physical therapy practice is, like a hospital, a coming and going of people who often have a reduced resistance to infection or other health problems.

The Bolidtop® flooring systems are the only systems that can eliminate the notorious MRSA hospital bug (and other multidrug-resistant bacteria) thanks to the special AM finish

What is so special about this is that the elimination does not take place by means of a chemical process, but through an innovative mechanical process. This is no longer a luxury at a time when reports about multidrug-resistant bacteria, including MRSA and VRE, are truly alarming. Patients with weakened immune systems or open wounds are particularly at risk and can suffer fatal consequences. An outbreak can also lead to serious financial and reputational damage for the healthcare institution.

Differences in charge

The Antimicrobial technology, developed and patented by Bolidt, employs a revolutionary bactericidal technique based on differences in charge, which causes bacteria to die. The AM technology protects large surfaces against the growth and spread of bacteria. In addition, bacteria cannot become resistant to this technique, as can happen when using chemical methods based on silver salts. The process also does not lose any of its effectiveness over time and is environmentally friendly. This makes Bolidt’s Antimicrobial technology a responsible and durable choice in every respect.
