Hospitals

The reception area. The OR. The outpatients' clinic. The lab where blood samples are examined. The lab. Consultation room and surgery. The Faraday cage. Toilets, shower, bath. Hallways. The laundry. The linen-room. Central kitchen: industrial catering … hardly anywhere as much diversity as in a hospital. Beds and trolleys being wheeled back and forth. Busy internal traffic. A constant coming and going. Peace and quiet. Colours create a friendly atmosphere. Hygiene. Bacteria. Microbes. Flooring that is easy to clean. Antistatic.

In a hospital that has to run day and night and has to be operative non-stop, Bolidtop is a material that has an extremely long life span and is quick and easy to replace. From the areas for general use, such as the entrance, waiting room, corridors, consultation room, outpatients’ clinic and casualty up to and including specific applications such as the Faraday cage and ESD safety floors for in the operating theatre.

Floors in the X-ray department and in intensive care where computers have to continue doing their job and static electricity must be excluded. The surgery department where the floors have to be resistant to substances such as iodine and blood. Resilient synthetic materials for light wall constructions (metal stud) in shower and toilet areas whereby the transition from the synthetic floor to the Bolicoat wall finish is seamless. In addition there are rooms in which peace and quiet are very important: sound-insulating floor finishes. In public areas such as entrance halls, waiting rooms and corridors resistance to wear is an important factor. The shops and the restaurant have their own floors. For example for the pediatric ward there are Bolidtop ‘fun’floors in which any children’s hero can figure or in which an artist can realize his creation. For the rehabilitation areas Bolidt has seamless sportfloors in its range, also taking account of hygiene and maintenance. The technical areas, the (industrial) kitchens, the lab, the linen room, the laundry… strong, resistant to wear and easy to maintain floor finishes.

For every question, a specific floor solution.

Bolidt Antimicrobial Technology
Bolidt has developed antimicrobial technology for the health care sector, which uses a revolutionary bactericidal technique. The traditional techniques are antibacterial paint systems based on chemical methods using, for instance, silver salts to prevent the spread of bacteria. Bolidt has developed a patented technology that has a lasting and more comprehensive effect.

How does it work?
In short, by differences in charge. The surface of the Bolidt Antimicrobial Technology systems is positively charged. The walls of the bacterial cells are negatively charged, but this negative charge is partly neutralised by Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions on their surface. Their negatively charged cell walls pull the bacteria to the positively charged floor surface, which repels the neutralising ions and disrupts the negative cell membrane. Result: the bacterium dies. Large contact surfaces are thus protected against the growth and spread of bacteria. In addition, bacteria cannot develop resistance to this bactericidal technology, which is a concern when using chemical methods based on silver salts, for instance. And it does not involve any toxic substances, which are released from the coating during use and cleaning and end up in the environment. Due to this so-called ‘leaching’ property, such coatings also lose their effectiveness over time, which is not the case with Bolidt’s antimicrobial technology.

Prisons are an inextricable part of our society. Care is therefore also paid to the design and furnishing of Penitentiary Establishments. In the past, Penitentiary Establishments were kept as simple as possible so as not to be provocative. Now, colours are used more frequently to increase the quality of life and clarity.

In the cross-shaped buildings, a centrally situated post and short running lines provide a clear view of the cells. The detainees can participate in sports in special sports halls, get some fresh air in gardens, work in various departments, follow courses and recreate. Bolidt supplies (sports) floors for this purpose. Based on this line of thought, architects develop and organise the infrastructure, and arrange the spaces as efficiently and conveniently as possible. For example, there may not be any hidden places or corners. Nowadays, certain artistic expression is also considered when designing Penitentiary Establishments. This art is applied, for example, as geometric designs in the floor and as paintings on the wall. Synthetics have the big advantage that more can be done with them than with, for example, marmoleum. Many colour, design and decoration applications are possible that give depth (three-dimensional visualisation) to the whole.

Where a Penitentiary Establishment makes specific demands, Bolidt has the floor.

With its synthetic floors Bolidt is anticipating the requirements of the education sector from play/learning classroom to lecture hall: acoustics, durability, wear resistance, operational reliability, sound deadening, heat insulation, easy maintenance, user friendliness. Even when education simulates practical situations: laboratories, kitchens, workshops, computer classrooms, cutting halls. Chemical-resistant such as for the lab or the chemistry room. Floors for situations in which hygiene counts, such as in the gym where people walk around on bare feet.

Floors in corridors with a great deal of pedestrian traffic, which require a high resistance to impact and wear. Floors that are easily to maintain and to clean. Wear-resistant floors in material and colours that suit the image an area needs. This has led to an increasing amount of architects and users asking for Bolidtop floors for several reasons including the unlimited freedom in design. A liquid floor finish with a decorative appearance, applied on location in rooms where atmosphere is an extra determining factor. Geared to your demands, as far as peace and quiet and appearance are concerned, such as, for example sound-deadening floors. Durable floors that are intensively used, for the entrance hall and the corridors. For computer rooms Bolidt has a conductive floor (ESD safe) in its range. The wide variety of colour options in the Bolidt range are an attractive aspect. Special floor systems for the kitchen area and the washroom areas meet hygiene and maintenance requirements.

Theatres, museums

A challenge to many museums: making sure the public's attention is focused on the exhibition. Creating spaces that do not dominate. Flooring, walls, ceilings that stand out at most because of their discreetness. A combination of design and durability. Shuffling feet, millions a year. A full house. The theatre. Rows of seats, sometimes movable, so an extra burden to the floor. The theatre has several ‘stages’: flooring in the lounge and foyer. Appearance, colour, atmosphere. A party after a successful opening night. Applause.

No matter how individual the design, the trick is not to let the immediate environment attract too much attention. The visitor wants to be able to concentrate on work being displayed; this means creating areas that do not dominate. The transition from Bolidtop synthetic floor finishes to the wall finish is seamless.

A museum has to consider differences in load: people shuffling across the floor, turning on their feet, which works like sandpaper on the floor finish; even in places where visitors literally stand still for longer periods to admire a work of art, there is a question of a more intensive mechanical load. It goes without saying that these floors are easy to maintain: Bolidt realizes that maintenance costs recur every day. Theatre attendance brings in a lot of people and the floor has to endure a great deal: all kind of shoes, walking, turning, standing, cigarette ends, chewing gum, cola… A floor has to be able to withstand it all. Bolidt has synthetic floors for the foyer and reception area where, in addition to durability, appearance, colour and atmosphere are also important. And floors for areas with other requirements of use: floors for the theatre restaurant with its own kitchen, with attention to hygiene and maintenance; floors for the technical and logistics areas with internal transport and heavy mechanical loads, the cloakroom and the corridors, where it comes down to noise reduction and simple maintenance.

Bolidt knows from experience that the laboratory is the heart of the company. It is the center for quality control of raw materials; the final check of the end product takes place here. This is the domain of precision, where the permissible deviations of a product are determined. A laboratory is often a research center.

Chemistry, health care, pharmacy, technology, education… each area makes its own demands on a laboratory, pilot factory or test room. Static electricity, dust particles, dirt, bacteria, chemicals… all kinds of special ‘threats’ for laboratories. Bolidt has developed floor and wall finishes which have been designed especially for this purpose according to extremely severe international standards and criteria, which are in keeping with, among other things, the HACCP management policy.
ESD- safe floors
This seamless, conductive floor has ‘high definition’ conductivity, which can be brought down by a large number of factors.
Floors that are resistant to chemicals.
Bolidt supplies systems of which the strongest variant can withstand even the most aggressive chemicals. It is very important that the floor is fluid-tight with a view to maintenance, hygiene and contamination.
Wall finishes
For finishing the walls, we have developed the seamless Plycoat H system. This is an elastic wall finish that fits seamless with the Bolidtop floor. As a result, the room becomes a kind of watertight ‘cocoon’.

Distribution centres and retail business

Logistic centres. Speedy forklift trucks. Moving fast across extremely even floors. Precision work over large surfaces. Bulk transport. Not only even, but also durable flooring. Wear-resistant. Logistics, routing, use of colours. With great variety, because flooring requirements in a bottling plant differ from those in a wholesale paint business. DIY centres. Chains. Complete shopping centres. Optimum working conditions. Areas in which shoppers have to feel comfortable. Customer-friendly in every respect. Accessible, literally without thresholds.

To the consumer, buying starts with pleasant shopping. To the floors, this means that, in addition to durability, appearance, colour and atmosphere are the first consideration. Bolidt floors can be made completely in style with the presentation; designs can even be tailor-made, with a specific idea for each ‘shop within the shop’. Impermeable, seamless, easy maintenance and safe with regard to the HACCP management. For a floor that gets moisture on it and which as result could become slippery, such as in the vegetable processing department, Bolidt supplies a non-slip floor finish.

For areas with intensive traffic, such as for example forklift trucks, there are strong wear-resistant layers with adapted surface texture. In areas where the shoppers must feel at their ease and where presentation of the products is extremely important, colour plays a major part. Being customer-friendly also implies that an area is easily accessible, literally without thresholds. In warehouses the traffic with forklift trucks, pallet trolleys and automatic guided vehicles ( AGV’s) means that the floor is subjected to heavy loads. Not only mechanically, but also chemically, all sort of things end up on the floor. Bolidt pays attention to functional use, life span, safety and maintenance. A level floor is a must when working with ‘cherry pickers’, which have to lift the good with great precision to great warehouse heights. For working with components which are sensitive to static electricity, Bolidt has ESD-safe, electrically conductive floors.

Stations, platforms, metro

Passengers, coming and going. Suitcases, trolleys. Forklift trucks. Often in a great hurry. Platforms that should be indestructible. Safe at any moment of the day. Antiskid, in all weathers. Seamless. Easy and fast to clean. Intermediate stations where everybody should feel comfortable. Platforms with a sound-attenuating finish. Urban transport, bus and tram. Depots. Embedded rails. Noise and vibrations, decibels and hertz. Customer-friendly, a pleasant environment. Reliable, dependable.

Travelers and passengers, personnel, the vehicles themselves; trains, trams and tubes… each type of transport makes its own demands on floors. Materials must be nearly indestructible. Safety, comfort and atmosphere make demands of their own. Floor with a high resistance to shock, wear and impact, which adhere excellently to cementinious and steel substrates. A floor which is super strong and seamless and which can be applied in areas where heavy-duty floors are required.

To reduce noise pollution to an acceptable level, platforms are finished with visco-elastic materials, which absorb vibrations and decibels. Weather conditions. Bolidt has floors that are rough: floors that fit seamlessly for easy and quick cleaning. Design and colour play an important part as well. Travelers want to feel at ease in an environment that is ‘hasty and anonymous’. Whether for traffic or for transport, Bolidt can always supply the right floor. For rail constructions (tram, train and light rail) Bolidt has the Bolirail system for the ballast less track. This elastic synthetic material, which is completelty geared to the elasticity of the track, can replace the ballast bed, which requirers a great deal of maintenance. But it also makes a positive contribution to the reduction of weight of the rail construction, as well as to the electric insulation.

Car parks, road surface heating

Oil, petrol and salts. Braking and acceleration. The floor in a car park has to put up with a great deal. Rain, sleet, snow, frost. An enormous range of temperatures, sometimes even up to 70 degrees. The use of elastic synthetics to cover moving constructions. Membrane systems impermeable to fluids and spanning cracks. Seamless, double T-girders. Synthetic wearing courses. Antiskid, wear-resistant. Easy to maintain. Heated slip roads. Measures to increase the sense of safety: a friendly use of colours. Lineation. Clear signposting. Convenient parking that immediately turns into a shopping convenience: car parks with shops on all parking levels. Colour. Parking with a capital P.

Multi-storey car parks have to be able to stand rough usage. The roof is exposed to the elements and strong fluctuations of temperature (up to 70 C). Floors have to be wear-resistant and sufficiently rough; also they have to be resistant to the influence of melting salts, oil and petrol. Boliflex is a membrane, which has a very good adhesive capacity to concrete, is seamless and permanently elastic. The Boligrip wearing course is applied to the Boliflex membranes as a finish. Together they form an extremely firm combination, as the materials are related. The Boligrip systems are seamless, elastic, fluid-tight, UV-resistant, wear-resistant and skid-resistant, lightweight and practically maintenance-free.

For the parking roof, Bolidt has developed the Bolidrain wearing course with its water-storing and water-draining capacity. Owing to the synthetic binder, the functional strength qualities are maintained both in summer and winter: while traditional materials with a base of, for instance, asphalt or bitumen often cause difficulties when exposed to temperature differences. The Bolidrain system can also be applied over roof insulating plates: the inverse roof construction. Another argument for choosing Bolidt remains invisible, but is highly important: the systems are sound reducing. Ramps and vital road sections can be heated electrically by the Bolidt/ Siemens system. The heating cable is protected by a synthetic grid and is 3 mm below the Boligrip surface.
